practice makes perfect 1

There was a boy called Rakesh.  He studied in class eight in a school in Chennai.  He always had his nose in the air.  He was one of the best solo dancers in his school.  He always bragged to his friends, “Is there a better dancer than me?”One day as Rakesh and Naveen, his best pal, were walking back home from school, they came across a poster stuck on a lamppost.  It was an announcement about an inter-school dance competition.  Seeing it, Rakesh said to Naveen, “What a chance to prove I am the best dancer in town!”
Naveen was glad that Rakesh had an opportunity to demonstrate his talent in front of a larger audience.

But, he advised his friend, “Yes, Rakesh, I am sure you will win the contest. But, you must practice hard for the competition.”
Brushing aside his advice, Rakesh, retorted, “Who needs practice, when you are the best?” He registered for the competition. Thinking that nobody could beat him, and he could win the contest easily, he never bothered to practice at all. Naveen advised him often: “Practice makes a man perfect.”

THE GENIE AND THE WISE PEASANT PART 2

He entered a little town called Vaniput. There he saw a little hotel. He came there and pleaded for food. The   response was a harsh one. “Get out you good for nothing, do you think we are giving things for free”, this was the reply by the hotel manager. He walked away sadly. He staggered here and there. He was very hungry that he could not continue further. Then he suddenly fell unconscious on the pavement. When he opened his eyes he saw he was in a house. He got up he saw that there was food laid on the table. He got up with joy. He started to eat like a wild animal. “Eat nicely my lad, it’s for you only”, a voice boomed from nowhere. “Who is there?” Jacob asked with a mouth full. An old woman emerged from the darkness. “Don’t be afraid my child”, she said, and paused and then continued, “You can eat till you are content”. Jacob smiled at her kindness. After eating, she asked, “What brings you to our village?” .Jacob told his story, how he had to answer three questions to get freedom within 7days, and how he was unable to answer the third question. “My lad what is the third question”, she asked, kindly.
It is produced in many colours,. However, its origin colour is orange. It keeps us warm but it is not fire. It helps us see in the dark, but it is not a torch light. It helps us to be relaxed , but it is not a book. It helps us to live as well us to die, what it is then”, he said, “I answered the first two questions”, he added. “This is a tough question, my lad”, she said, rubbing her chin thoughtfully. “Yes, now I have just two days to spare”, Jacob said, very worried. “So it is a nice time with you my lad”, said the old woman, patting Jacob’s shoulder, kindly. Jacob felt her kindness. He wished to spend more time with her, but he had to move on. He saw the rope tied to his ankle, It was as tight as it could be. Soon he left the house. The kind old woman had given him some food, packed in a polythene cover. He did not feel like eating at all. All his thoughts were focused on the riddle. “It is produced in many colours. However, its origin colour is orange. It keeps us warm but it is not fire. It helps us see in the dark, but it is not a torch light. It helps us to be chilly but it is not an air conditioner. It helps us to live as well us to die, what it is the”. This was the thought that ran over his mind all the time. Then two days passed like wind. Jacob could not believe it, he gave up. He waited for the genie to pull his leg. Then suddenly he felt a pull in his ankle. In minutes, He was with the genie. “Where are the answers?”, He roared. He did not answer. “Where is the question paper”, bellowed he. He refused to open his mouth. “May be a shock treatment”, he said with a wicked smile. All of sudden he got the answer, “Shock= electricity, that’s it, electricity, it is produced in many colours but it is original colour is orange. Because of electricity, there is heater, so it keeps us warm. The tube light is lit by electricity.  It gives us light, but it is not a torch light.” He thought. He paused a while, when he saw the giant coming to him. “Have you made up your mind”, he asked looking sincere. “Yes , I have it in my pocket”, Jacob said as he spat on the genie’s face. “You have lost some manners down there, my young man”, the genie said, slightly angered. As the genie medaled in his pockets , Jacob continued his thinking. “It helps us to be relaxed, but it is not a book, it is television. It helps us in many ways to help us live , as well us to die”, he thought , then a broad smile followed it . “So forgotten you had three questions to answer", he screamed. “Yes but may I tell you that the answer to the third question is electricity”, he said confidently. “Noooooooooooooooooooooooo”, the genie screamed as the paper said “Your answer is correct, your answer is correct”. The genie was reduced to ashes.
After this the ashes were converted into treasury. He took as many as he can and took it home. And they all lived happily ever after.

THE GENIE AND THE WISE PEASANT PART 1

THE GENIE AND THE WISE PEASANT
By C V Shamil Abishek
Once upon a time, there lived a poor peasant. His name was Jacob. He had very little money. One day he was traveling to sell his harvested items. He had just entered the city, when suddenly a dust storm blew against his face. He wiped the dust off his face, and there before him appeared a genie“Who is it?” shouted the genie. “A poor peasant my lord,” said Jacob stammering. “How dare you wake me up from my sleep”, he yelled at him.  “I am so sorry oh genie,” he stammered as he apologized for his behavior. “So, what’s your name”, the genie asks angrily.“It is Jacob my lord,” he answered shivering with fear. “I am so hungry now,” the genie said furiously. “I need some human flesh, need them badly,” he grunted. “Have mercy on me oh lord,” said Jacob still shivering with horror in his eyes. “ OK, just answer three questions and I will leave you,” he said, rubbing his chin, with a mischievous smile. “But if you fail to answer these questions …,” he continued as his eyes grew wide with anger “I will gobble you up.” The poor peasant felt a little relieved now. “Here is a piece of paper, it contains the questions. You give me the replies within one week,” he roared. Genie then tied a rope’s end in his own ankle and attached the other end in the peasant’s ankle. Then the Genie said, “See this is a magical rope. It is an endless rope you can travel very far away and go any where you want to, but the moment one week is over, I will pull you back”, he said.                                                Jacob traveled for 3 days. He saw the rope tied in his ankle and he knew he could not escape. Then he sat down near a banyan tree. He opened the folded paper the genie had given him. All of a sudden, the paper began to speak. “It is a formless object, but it is not an amoeba, it changes its colours, but it is not Chameleon, too much of it could take our lives away, but we still need it, what is it?,” said the paper in a humorous tune .
Jacob nearly fainted, and then he realized that it was a magical paper. It took him a while to recover from his shock. Then he began to think about the question. He began to think hard. After thinking a while, he went in search of water. Then suddenly he thought about water. “It is a formless object, it changes its colours, when it is put in a blue vessel it appears blue,” he thought with enthusiasm. “Too much of it will kill us,” he paused and said jumping with joy “And the answer to that is tsunami.” He took the magic paper and yelled, “The answer is water, water,” he repeated it twice with joy. “Your answer is correct,
Your answer is correct,” it said in a low humorous tune. He was in high spirits now.
Now it began to ask the second question. “It lives in water, it is born in water but it is not a fish, it also lives out of water, but it is not a frog, then what is it?,” it asked in its usual mocking tune. “What must be the answer,” Jacob wondered, scratching his head fiercely.

Two days were over, and still he had no answer. He started to moan. “It lives in water, it is also born in water but it is not a fish, it also lives out of water, but it is not a frog, then what is it,” he repeated to himself. “It must be a plant!” he exclaimed happily. “It lives in water; there are aquatic plants that also live out of water,” he exclaimed merrily. He took the paper in his hand and screamed the answer so loudly that a deaf person near him turned around, frightened. “Your answer is correct, your answer is correct,” the paper said in a low humorous tune. He was on cloud nine now. There is one more question to answer before Jacob to taste freedom

He than went inside a thick forest in search of water. There he opened the paper to face his next challenge. “It is produced in many colours. However, its original colour is orange. It keeps us warm but it is not fire. It helps us see in the dark, but it is not a torch light. It helps us to be relaxed, but it is not a book. It helps us to live as well us to die, what it is then,” it asked in a funny tune.  Jacob looked dumbfounded. He was just speechless as pressure took over his body. He got up and started walking. His eyes were filled with tears and fear. He thought about it again and again. Nevertheless, his mind did not give him any suggestions.

It has been with me at every time, when I was happy, when I was sad or angry. So when I was reading my favorite magazine my best friend Suresh came in saying that he saw a new magazine in the shop. I first said that I need to finish reading my favorite magazine. He said, “Ok, but it is very sad to see a ninth grader to read young world.” I gave a strange look back and said, “See, young world plays a important role in my life.” “Whatever, but just remember my words man, we can’t be sitting idle dude. We got to move on.” Saying these words he left. But not his words. I began to ask myself am I too old for these stuff. The next day I went to purchase the book that my friend d told about.  And surprisingly it was fun. It was just about my problems I facing the schools. It showed what age like mine should do & not to do. The next week I missed my young world but who cares, I got the world’s best teenage magazine. the next few days were a bit upset.
